Camping Trip
After weeks of preparation, on wednesday the 13th of September, we were ready to go camping. I was satisfied my with my junior certificate results which left me in a good mood for the trip. We arrived at Lough Dan and began setting up our tents. This was my first time setting up a tent and I enjoyed it. I was lucky enough to be in one of the biggest tents there. After getting used to the campsite and deciding who sleeps where, we had our first small hike. Unfortunately it all went downhill as the weather took a turn for the worst and we were subjected to rain for the first of many times throughout the trip. During the evening we had a campfire that kept us warm which I very grateful for.
I talked with new people that I'd never talked to before. and I had a lot of fun.The next morning, I awoke feeling ill. I had managed to catch a cold. This put me in a bad mood for the rest of the trip which made my thoughts on everything after very biased. We had a very long hike on the second day which after a while began to take a toll on me as started to get tired. I enjoyed the hike. Having a shower after walking was really nice. We were served delicious burgers after the hike which warmed us up. Initially I was excited at the prospect of swimming but I found that the water was just too cold. On the third day it was time to go home. Due to my sickness I was glad to be going home. This was my first experience of camping and overall I really enjoyed it. I hope I get an opportunity to go camping again in the future, except next time I will be sure to take more medicine for extra pro caution.

Carlingford
On Monday 19th February I woke up excited because very soon I would be in Carlingford with my year. I had my bags packed from the previous night and I was ready to go. The bus ride over was enjoyable as people shared stories about what they did during the mid-term break and the bus was full of excitement and optimism. I wasn't sure what to expect when I got there but I was satisfied with the centre when I saw it. We were sorted into rooms randomly. I was friendly with the people in my room and I was very pleased with the room itself. The first day was one of the best in my opinion. My group were assigned the activitiy that was 'laser combat' which I later decided to be my favourite activity. The evenings were filled with night activities such as 'murder mystery',where you walk around the town in groups with a map and clues in an attempt to solve a murder, and 'night line', where everyone walks in a line through a forest whilst blindfolded. We did a water activity which was canoeing. It was very cold but that didn't stop us from having fun. I was dreading the canoeing because of the weather but I soon became used to it and once that happened I found it to be an enjoyable experience that I definitely want to try another time in the future. The skypark was amazing as we had the opportunity to do zip lining and obstacles courses suspended above the ground. I thoroughly enjoyed this activity because most obstacles were tricky. Of course safety was the number one priority so even if I fell I knew the harness clips would keep me safe. Despite the safety, I was still anxious at some stages of the course but I'm glad I followed through and completed them. The high rope activity in the skypark was the most fearful for me. Four people had to climb a little tower and then stand together on the top of a little platform that was big enough for one person comfortably. I was the last to climb so it was the hardest for me to climb up as I needed to climb onto the platform with three people already on it. But we worked as a team and we held onto each other. My first impression at the top was that it was very shaky and even though I'm not afraid of heights fear ran throughout my body. After coming down I thought the first I would feel is relief but instead i felt a sense of accomplishment. The last day was welcomed by many myself included. Not because I hadn't enjoyed it but I was simply ready to come home. The bus was full of worn out faces and many people slept through the ride. Carlingford adventure centre was without a doubt the best trip I've been on in school. Overall an amazing trip and I would definitely go again.

DCU Open Day
I was excited to go to the DCU open day. I had marked which lectures I wanted to go to the night before. Most of which were science based. The talks I attended were very interesting and I knew there was a lot that I needed to learn. After a few talks I had enough time to grab a small snack and then I explored the campus. I explored the engineering building with my peers and I was fascinated and amazed to find out how the machines built by the students worked. DCU is definitely a college worth considering. That is of course, if I get the points.
D.I.T Open Day
For my second open day I was just as excited to attend the open day. My first initial thoughts were that D.I.T was based mostly around architecture and business. I was a little bit disappointed by this but that didn't stop me from finding the talks there to be interesting. I was surprised how interested I was to be honest. D.I.T was much better than I had anticipated. There was a lot more snacks here and there was even a recreational area for people to relax. I enjoyed the day out and overall I liked the open day.
BT young scientist
This year we had the opportunity to attend the young scientist in the RDS. Each stand that I went to had something different and interesting. I was surprised by the creativity in each project shown. I was fascinated by each project and I didn't hesitate to ask questions about them.
French Exchange
I took part in the french exchange. Everyone doing french exchange got a coresponden. My corespondent's name was Lino. When he arrived we came well acquainted with one another. While he was here we did different activities. We met up with other students doing the exchange so they could talk to each other and feel more comfortable in Ireland. We went to Dundrum on two separate occasions to watch movies and to do shopping. I look forward to my trip to France.
